Luckily our friends from California came to our rescue! A day after their arrival, they were promptly introduced to Bangkok life while Ryan and I finished our last day of work at parent-teacher conferences (yay). After relaxing massages, some shopping, and a hearty Thai meal, they thought they were Bangkok experts. But the tuk-tuk drivers reminded them they didn't know jack, and promptly escorted them to the jewelry shop because the Grand Palace was "closed until 3pm." An hour and a half and a potential $2,000 later, Ryan contacted them and said, "Get the hell out of there." Hats off to Ryan (Paul) and Jessica for braving Bangkok's swindlers, monsoons, and many modes of transportation within 24 hours.
Off to Krabi...we spent 3 luxurious nights at the Amari Hotel. Our days were spent lounging at the pool, walking on the beach, and playing lots of GAMES! We may have had a beer or two as well.
Afterwards, we were off to Railay beach, dubbed by Ryan and me as "Land of the Beautiful People." Krabi is known for its limestone cliffs and is a haven for backpackers and rock climbers. Ryan and I celebrated an anniversary there a few years ago and noticed an extraordinarily high number of young people with excellent physiques. This time we were a bit older and not quite as toned, but we still wanted to mingle among them. Perhaps they sensed we were just impostors. No matter, as we spent another 3 days lounging by the pool, walking on the beach, and playing lots of games.
