Two and a Half Guests

Last week we were lucky to have our first set of overnight visitors. Brian, Mikaela, and unborn (but not unloved) baby came for a visit from Atlanta en route to a medical conference in France. Brian was Ryan's best man at our wedding, and we hadn't seen him in 6 years, when he was our first overnight guest in Thailand!

One of the best things about Brian is that he takes better care of us than we do of him when he comes to visit us. Why do we have this reversal of traditional host-guest roles? Because for about the first six months of living in a new country, we are pretty much incapable of being in anything but survival mode. Where should we go for dinner? No idea. What are the best tourist attractions? Look it up in a book. How do we get from point A to point B? Trial and error.

But Brian is always our hero. While we work all day, he reads restaurant reviews and makes reservations, looks up tourist attractions and figures out how to get to them, does our dishes and buys us dish towels, determines the cheapest and most efficient way for future guests to get to and from the airport. Surprisingly, it's not the 50-pound first-class car on the airport express. Aren't you glad he figured that out for you? "You're welcome," Brian says.

Many thanks to Brian, Mikaela, and baby Baker for visiting us!

"Find the Sun" is a game we played while walking along the Thames.
Found it! We  love games.
