Mac-Wow!

This October break, Ryan and I decided to have a stay-cation in Hong Kong. We did get away for a couple of days to Macau, a former Portuguese colony. I've never been there before, but Ryan's visited multiple times. Why? He loves Portuguese architecture.

It was a perfect getaway for two nights, mostly because our hotel room was bigger than our flat.

This bed is double the size bed we slept in for an entire year in England.
This bathroom is bigger than our bedroom.
I love looking out the window and not being able to touch the
building next door, a la our apartment we live in now.
Also, it's a hop, skip, and jump away from Venice.

It was a beautiful night in Venice. Look at how the sunset
really makes the sky so beautiful.
That canal water looks suspiciously clean.
Ryan's in the mood for love.

We spent much of our time on the man-made beach with a huge wave pool. It was perfect...you get all the benefits of being near the ocean - the sound of waves, relaxation, sun - without actually having to be in nature.

Chillin' at the "beach" with some books and magazines.
It was at this very beach that I got my first taste of reverse racism, although I think in Asia they just call it "racism." Gephen decided she wanted to be participate in the the kids cooking class, which consisted of holding a cup under an electric snow cone machine. (Don't laugh! There were no helpers around to press the "on" button.) Well, we held that cup for minutes - MINUTES! - while the head chef helped all the other families with their snow cones first. Gretchen practically got frostbite! Granted, the temperature was 80 degrees outside, but still.

The head chef in the yellow collar looks innocent enough,
but don't let her fool you.

Gretchen and Gephen "cooking."
Phew, cooking is tough work!
Macau is like the Vegas of the East. It's got all the bling, but with fewer hookers and wife beaters. They don't even serve free alcohol on the gambling floor. But they do come around with free tea and water - no joke!

Ooooooohhhhhh, crystals!
This is a sweet ride!
Many thanks to Tim, Gretchen, Donovan, and Gephen for a great visit!
