Date Night: The Ultimate Improv

Ryan and I bought tickets to an improv comedy show that was happening this Saturday. We were excited because I LOVE improv and because our colleague Steve was going to be in the show.

That day Madeline and I went to meet Ryan at the softball field where he was playing 2 games with his team, Brewhouse. Mads had loads of fun hanging with dad and the other softball fans who absolutely adore her.

Chillin' with dad at the field.

We took the public bus home, fed Madeline dinner, and put her to sleep before our helper came over to baby-sit. While eating dinner at home Ryan searched for but couldn't find his wallet. We checked the washing machine, the hamper, his backpack, our pockets, and all the other usual suspects. No wallet!! He concluded that it must have fallen out of his shorts while riding the bus. The usual cool-headed Ryan was beginning to panic a bit because 1) it sucks to lose your wallet and 2) he'd just taken out about 400USD in cash.

I suggested he call the bus company just in case someone had found his wallet, although honestly I thought the possibility was slim to none that it would actually turn up.

"I lost my wallet on the 103 bus towards Causeway Bay at about 5pm this afternoon. Has it turned up, by chance?" Ryan asked the bus company rep.

"Hold on please," she replied. Thirty seconds later she returned to the line and nonchalantly stated,"Oh yeah, Mr. Ho has it at the Chuk Yuen bus terminus."

Whaaaaaat? We immediately raced to a taxi stand and took a 40 minute ride to the terminus in the heart of Kowloon where a friendly Mr. Ho greeted us and returned Ryan's wallet to him with everything intact, including all of the money! In what other city would this happen? I can't think of one.

Hallelujah!
We had missed the show, but we were determined to celebrate our good luck so we called our friend Jim and headed to his place. We had a lovely evening sipping wine and munching on cheese and crackers.

"I'm so glad we found your wallet, but it was disappointing to miss the improv," I said to Ryan.

"Rachel, tonight was the ultimate improv!" he replied.
