Madeline is 6 Months Old!

Happy half birthday, Madeline! I don't want to say that too loudly lest she turn out like her dad and celebrate birthmonth AND half birthmonth. That would be just too much!

Madeline has accumulated several nicknames during her short six months.

1) The Dragon. When she was a newborn she slept in a bassinet in our room. She would wake us in the wee hours of the night by growling and violently thrashing her head from side to side in her sleep looking for milk, and it reminded us of a dragon in search of food. That, and she likes to sleep on a pile of gold.

2) Baby Wonderful. Our friend Julie gave her this moniker. Madeline has been a fairly easy baby, and Julie's told us several times that we won the baby lottery. To which Ryan replied, "Well, when you enter enough times..."

3) Little Bug. With her little round head and wrapped in a swaddle, she reminded me so much of the 80's toy Glo Worm.

4) Ms. Mads. Because we like to keep it formal.

In the last month Madeline has learned to sit up!

Grandma Barbar says she looks like an
opera singer in this picture.
Falling!
She is also eating solids foods! It's been an easy transition given she's spent the last couple of months putting everything in sight into her mouth.

We started with the classic rice cereal and she's working her way through a variety of veggies. She loves them all! She's tried squash, cauliflower, carrots, zucchini, and green beans. Much to her mother's dismay, she even loves broccoli. We've also done a bit of baby led weaning, which is fancy speak for steam her food and cut it into potato wedge pieces so she can put it into her own mouth. Day 1 of baby led weaning: Hold the food, squish it, throw it to the side. Day 2 of baby led weaning: Hold the food, squish it, take a small bite, throw it to the side. We see growth!

I'm ready!
Is there more?
