Kirchner Update

We had a wonderful summer, but Madeline left out some details. What else did we get up to?

Well, before we left for the US we had a family photo shoot. And by family I mean mother-daughter. Since this is Hong Kong, the photography studio was sooooo busy, but we had to spend our Groupon before it expired. Unfortunately, Ryan had to attend a work event on the only day we could get into the studio, so here are some mother-daughter and only-daughter shots:

Seeing family and friends. As always, the highlight of the summer. Thanks to all of you for opening up your homes and schedules to be with us.

The Yang Family Reunion. My uncle, my grandfather, and my grandfather's wife came out for the summer to meet Ms. Mads. I learned that my middle name, Young, should actually be Yang! My great-grandfather arrived from Hong Kong in Panama. He told the immigration officer his last name was Yang, and the immigration officer said, "Whatever, I'll call you Mr. Young."

Rocky Mountain High: Some more family reunions and a Rockies game. We admired all the beautiful places in Colorado.

Watching baseball and contemplating a big tub of nachos.
God bless America!
It's gorgeous in the mountains!
Look-alikes.

New milestones for Mads:

She's standing very well. She's climbs up furniture. She climbs down furniture. She climbs up stairs. Sometimes she climbs down backwards. She doesn't walk.

She dances to music, and her favorite songs are "Take me to the River" and "Don't Worry Be Happy" sung by Billy Bass.

She's talking! "Up" and "down" were her first real words. She had those down at about 11 months. She waves hello and good-bye, accompanied by a soft, "Hi." She uses sign language to say "milk," "all done," and "more." She said "book" once, but I haven't heard it again. Here are some more words she's learned, with interpretations:
    • Biya = banana
    • Biya = ball
    • Biya = anything that starts with "B"
    • Da / dog / gog = dog
    • Da / dog / gog = sometimes means bird
    • Minaminamina = we have no idea
    • Nononono (with a finger wave) = No (thanks for teaching her that, Abuela)
She has a sense of humor.
