Madeline - Month 4

It's been a month of firsts for our little Maddy!!
  • First time wearing long pants! And a sweater! But not together because that would just be silly. The weather has finally cooled down in Hong Kong.

  • First haircut! I know, who gives their 4 month old a haircut? We do. Actually, we gave her two. We trimmed her bangs because they were getting into her eyes all the time. Then we noticed that she had two dreadlocks at the back of her head from rubbing her head against the mattress when she's falling asleep. No comb would get those dreads out so we chopped them off. Lucky for her she's got lots more hair so no one would notice!
We are counting on the mullet and/or the beehive making a comeback.

  • First belly laugh! Madeline learned how to giggle last month, and we love making her laugh. She is quite a tough audience though. You do something once and she laughs hysterically. Do it again hoping to get the same effect? She's stone faced.

  • First time in a swimming pool! Mads looked super cute in her swimsuit that Abuela got her. We can't wait to swim again when we head to Phuket over Christmas break!

  • First teeth! Mads got her two bottom teeth. I didn't even notice them until Ryan pointed them out! Then she got a bit of a runny nose and woke up crying a few times during the night. We knew something was up because she usually wakes up either babbling or squealing, and then if we don't get her she cries. But for a couple of nights she woke in a straight up cry. Poor girl :( I was expecting the worst with teething, but so far she's been a trooper. Suffice it to say she's a far better sick person than her mother. She has been testing out her new choppers, so we've had to introduce the word "gentle" into her vocabulary.

  • First Halloween!

Let's see...other things that happened in the past month:

There's no denying it anymore, her dad is officially in his late thirties. Unexpectedly, Ryan's best gift was actually for Maddy - a Broncos cheerleading costume. She just had to wear it at her dad's birthday dinner.
Many thanks to Aunt Courtney and Uncle Isaac
for "Ryan's gift."
We also had some more guests in October! Becky, Isaac, and their little girl, Aubrey, paid us a visit all the way from Delhi. Mads was fascinated by all things Aubrey.

Besties.

I continue to be absolutely in love with this little person we created. And by "we" I mean me, Ryan, Dr. Stevenson, a couple of embryologists, a bit of cash, and some serious advances in the medical system. Every day she amazes me with her smile. I finally appreciate how much our parents love us, how much our students' parents love them. Having Madeline has made me a better daughter (at least I hope, you'll have to confirm with Roxana the Fox) and will hopefully make me a better teacher.

Here are some family pictures we took this month!
